The West Auckland Resource Centre is treasure trove of donated materials, that can be accessed by the community as an affordable resource to promote ongoing learning through the creative arts.
The West Auckland Resource Centre ('WARC') was established to provide an affordable service where recycled materials can be accessed by the community and used to promote ongoing learning through the creative arts.
Over the years WARC has established long term relationships with suppliers who want to minimise the effect their environmental footprint has on the planet. These suppliers provide a variety of used, new and recycled, colourful and tactile materials to suit a broad range of creative purposes.
Many of these are end-of-line lots, or manufacturers' samples of textiles. Often the fibre composition is unknown, so WARC uses Sagitto's fabric composition system to determine the exact fibre compostion of textile items.
' We have a local designer who donates all her offcuts and I scan them and we've had a few come up that are very!! different to what she's been sold. Rayon versus linen and taking this a step further to the worm farm is seeing the worms take a wide berth still after 3 weeks. She's also had high polyester blends sold as pure wool. '
